Hello. Let’s talk about such an interesting phenomenon and guitar players who are left-handed in everyday life but play guitar as right-handed. I don’t know the scientific explanation for such cases, I guess these people are not 100% left-handed. Maybe it’s a “light” version of ambidextrous when people can use both hands, but the left hand is the main one. This post is a part of left-handed musicians series.
Next, you’ll see a list of such “switched” guitarists:) The order doesn’t matter, it’s not “Who is the Best” rating. The list will be supplemented in the future.
Table of Contents
Mark Knopfler
Okay, first on the list is Mark Knopfler. A great guitarist with his own unique style of playing and sound. Plus, he’s a great songwriter and composer. It’s one thing to be a good performer and another to write great music and songs. But you know all that, I don’t want to write a biography. Anyway, Mark is left-handed in life, but he plays like a right-handed person. That may have influenced the formation of his particular style of playing.
If you want to know more about Mark Knopfler, here’s a detailed article on Wikipedia.
I also recommend an interesting book by bassist John Illsley ‘My Life in Dire Straits: The Inside Story of One of the Biggest Bands in Rock History‘ about the founding and history of Mark Knopfler’s band Dire Straits.
Gary Moore
And another Big Guy, mister Gary Moore, mister Blues. So talented and so dramatic person. His guitar didn’t play, it sang, it was poetry in music. And yeah, he is also our man, was lefty but played right-handed.
Again, I refer you to Wikipedia if you’re interested.
